Scanned Roll Database
By Mike Walter

Hi all, It seems as if there are a fair number of individuals who
have entered the art of piano roll scanning. I have heard from a
reliable source that there are now two formats for scanning rolls:
MIDI Type 1 and e-rolls. I am wondering if anyone has established
a database to record what selections have been recorded and in what
format?

Collections of rolls have popped up recently and with their being so
many people scanning rolls, shouldn't there be some kind of database
so that a specific title for a specific label can be listed and
everybody isn't duplicating what someone else has already done?

Since I have worked for QRS I have come to appreciate the changes
in arrangements and the confusion these variations can cause. I would
humbly suggest that a database could include such things as title,
roll label, roll number, roll format, composer, artist(s) date of
issue, length of music (either by time or bits of information),
recording format, and maybe various other things. Any thoughts?

Best wishes,
Mike Walter
