Converting Skinner Organ Rolls to Aeolian Duo-Art
By Bob Taylor

I was wondering if anyone has converted Skinner automatic organ rolls
to the Aeolian Duo-Art organ roll format.

Several years ago Terry Smythe made a group of scanned Skinner rolls
available on his web site. Additionally, there was a publication
authored by Tim Rickman that explained the Skinner system. It is not
an easy read. When I tried to plow through the document and look at
the rolls, I concluded it would take too much time for me to learn the
system, so I shelved the project.

Recently, I tackled that document again. I converted Tim's analysis
of the tracker scale to a spread sheet. That gave me the visualization
that I needed to grasp Tim's explanation, which is much more straight
forward than I had thought.

My comprehension of the Skinner system is still in its infancy.
Skinner organs are magnificent and I assume the rolls would be of the
same quality. I realize that installations capable of playing these
rolls are almost non-existent. Thus, it seems that getting this music
transferred to the more common Aeolian system would be prudent.

If anyone wants to provide input to me, I would be grateful.

[ Bob, would you be willing to make the spreadsheet available ? --Jody
