"La SeriNET" No. 88 Mechanical Music Videos
By Jean Nimal

Dear friends from all over the world, autumn has just arrived in our
northern hemisphere. What about watching comfortably, by the fireside,
on your home screen some videos about your favorite hobby (passion,
full time job?) while the leaves are gently falling?

Here is the new La SeriNET No. 88 in English with its videos about
mechanical music. As you know, it is published in the French magazine
Musiques Mécaniques Vivantes No. 88 and is freely available on the web
site of the AAIMM (Associations des Amis des Instruments et de la
Musique Mécanique) http://www.aaimm.org/spip/spip.php?article899

What's on today? There are lots of topics -- take your time! Let's
place emphasis on these videos:

_ MBSI convention 2013 in Chicago. A particular thank you to Michel
Tremouille who shot this quality video with lots of magnificent
instruments. This video will remain available on the main web site of
the AAIMM (www.aaimm.org) for its ongoing benefit of introducing people
to the world of mechanical music. Good job, Michel!

_ Do not miss the videos about heavy music boxes, or at least the first
one for its fanciness. It is a creation of the artist Dave Cole who is
used to that kind of fantasy; he loves contrasts. This 2000-pound music
box plays the "Star Spangled Banner" but it is hardly recognizable.

_ Take time to discover the 2-hour video about the restoration (1999 -
2005) of the different parts of "de Lekkerkerker" organ (1928) mostly
made by Adrie Vergeer. Another video shows the instrument playing.

_ 4 videos of the Roullet Decamps peacock giving a good approach of
the automaton. The videos show the Phoenix Revival in four stages,
from the naked, poorly walking skeleton to the magnificent rising bird!

_ A new section will offer various instruments playing the same melody,
"Skaters Waltz", this time allowing you to compare the interpretations
and ability of the different instruments.

Best regards from France,
Jean Nimal
