Seek Tubing Diagram for 1913-14 Ampico Upright
By Herb Lindahl

Hello MMD readers, we are currently finishing work on a Knabe
upright Ampico A built in late 1913 or early 1914. This is the
earlier version of the model A system with some differences in tubing
layout, etc. For example, there is lever on the keyslip which has
three positions indicating loud, normal and soft. I am assuming this
predates the more familiar "Modify" switch in the spool box which has
subdued, normal and brilliant settings.

This lever connects to a small switch which has several 7/32-inch
tubes which I believe connect to the expression mechanisms. I am
particularly interested in the tubing of this part. I was wondering
if anyone has a drawing of this or if a chart exists.

Also in the key slip is a black pushbutton connected to a pallet valve
under the keyboard. I am not sure of its function so information on
that would be appreciated. We will also be installing the Hunt
Virtualroll system in this piano, to allow playing of Ampico erolls
from a computer.

Thank you very much.
