Seek Parts for Cylinder Music Box Movement
By Tony Ciuffini

Steve Sukunda from Down Under is looking for parts for his grandmother's
antique musical movement. From the pictures it appears this movement
was made either in the late 1800s and early 1900s from my experience
repairing such movements. There are no known sources of replacement
parts for these mechanisms, which are very well worth repairing as they
are quality movements.

In our repair methodology, we would remove the broken Geneva half and
make a new tang by slotting the original piece and inserting a new tang
with solder and shape it to fit.

His second picture shows two arrows under the motor and I believe
Steve is indicating that the motor will not hold when you try to wind
it. Again we have to repair the spring under the motor gear and that
involves carefully taking the center arbor of the spring out, removing
the parts, reshaping the spring and reassembling it.

Before I was part owner and the first president of Reuge USA I was
trained at the factory on all their products and at the time there was
a gentleman from Australia being trained with me. I also knew and still
know the retired Australian representative for Reuge. At one time I
asked him if there was anybody professionally able to repair modern
music boxes and his reply was he did not know any. This included the
technician that was trained at Reuge back in the early 90s.

As a minimum Steve could send the motor with the Geneva stop to the USA
for evaluation and repair.
