Seek Duo-Art Soft Pedal Shifter Lever
By Robert Stout

I need the cast iron shifter lever for a Weber Duo-Art grand.
I believe they are all the same design regardless of the brand of
Duo-Art. I have attached a photo of one from another Weber Duo-Art
I am rebuilding.

The piano that this lever goes on was purchased by my customer as a
gutted player because it was an art-case Weber. Since all the player
parts were removed, this included the tubing busses that attach to the
bottom of the keyboard. The contact point for the shifter lever is on
the middle buss. Whoever removed these parts attached a lever to the
pedal lyre and ran a cord up through the keybed to a pulley and raised
the hammer rail that way.

Some years ago we located a set of Duo-Art parts that matched the
dimensions of this piano. My customer drove several states away,
purchased them and brought them home. Some parts were missing,
including the soft rail pneumatic that mounts behind the spoolbox and
the corresponding linkage on the hammer action.

I rebuilt the player and fabricated a substitute soft rail pneumatic
that was attached to the pedal lyre and the cord the other person had
installed. In the meantime I located a proper soft rail pneumatic and
its linkage and was able to return that part of the system to original
condition. Now the customer would like to get a proper shifter lever
to make everything original. In my searching for one of these levers,
I see that Don Teach was also needing one a few years ago. I don't
know if he had any luck.

I have a shifter lever from a derelict Wurlitzer grand that does not
have the offset on the lever. I thought about having a shop try to
modify it. It would be so much better if an original one could be
located. Thanks for your help.
