Cranker's 80-key Mortier Organ Premier
By Ben Gottfried

Hi Everyone, We had the annual open house at the Cranker's museum
yesterday and the event was a great success. It's kind of a fun thing
to do as it really is mostly a car show so the crowd is not necessarily
expecting to hear automatic music machines. Their reactions in the
videos tell you how much they enjoyed the experience!

We did a premier of the 80-key Mortier organ and played the 84-key
Mortier and 61-key Verbeeck organs as well. I gave brief presentations
to familiarize the attendees with the history and nature of the organs
they were hearing. The 80-key Mortier had been silent for about 30
years. I have not found the serial number but I estimate the organ to
be from about 1912 or so.

We had Tom Meijer of the Netherlands work his arranging magic with
two new books for the two Mortiers. I think you will have both tunes
-- "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and "Put Your Head on My Shoulder" --
running through your head today if you take the time to look at the
YouTube videos:
