Association of Musical Box Collectors (AMBC)
By Paul Bellamy

The Association of Musical Box Collectors (AMBC) is an international
association with a worldwide membership, registered in the UK over
two years ago as an unincorporated society.

Unlike incorporated societies, which are registered businesses,
our members have equal status whether or not elected to committee.
There are no Companies House annual fees and no requirement for
formal accountancy or audit charges. The only legal requirement is
a registered bank account for tax purposes.

Non-committee volunteers support our committee and all work for free.
By keeping costs low we produce four high quality journals each year
and maintain a first-class website.

However, postal charges have increased and this necessitates a small
increase in membership subscription. Thus from March 1st, 2017, the
start of our membership year, subscriptions will increase as follows:
UK members from £12 to £14; European members from £20 to £22; USA and
the rest of the world £20 to £25. All this includes publications costs
and postage and packing for four full colored journals per year.

Like all societies it is important to maintain a strong membership
base. Our policy is to support membership to two other societies that
have common or complementary interests, namely the USA-based Musical
Box Society International (MBSI) and the UK-based Mechanical Organ
Owners Society (MOOS). We are also affiliated with several European
societies. Together we work to promote interest in our hobby to the
present generation.

We have produced an introductory booklet that summarises small
self-playing old and modern musical instruments. The booklet is
available at cost plus postage to any unincorporated or similar society
for promotional purposes. We freely offer technical and historical
advice. We produced the award-winning book, "The Musical Box Makers
of Switzerland," and a CD showing how one of our members constructed
a musical box. There is much more in the publication pipeline.
