Repairing Imhof & Mukle Barrel Orchestrion
By Mark Singleton

Dear All, I recently acquired a 75-key Imhof & Mukle Barrel Orchestrion
that I had known twenty years ago. The previous owner had it working
a treat, but after his passing several years ago the instrument has
stood silent. It was converted to electric drive, but the original
motor was left untouched so it can be converted back to weight drive,
which I think would be appropriate.

At the moment I have it up and running 'after a fashion' but she
is sounding sorry for herself considering her true capabilities.
Unfortunately I am not blessed with pockets deep enough to send her
away for whatever needs to be done, nor do I know anyone in the UK with
knowledge on these instruments. Therefore if anyone here understands
an Imhof, would they please consider either mentoring me on-line, or
pointing me in the direction of someone more knowledgeable than myself
so I might take the project forward.

I have made a little clip of her awakening, so any help or advice on
where to go next would be greatly appreciated. She has 210 pipes, the
barrel on this clip is Act Three, the finale to Mendelssohn's Violin
Concerto: https://youtu.be/61Bu2AJSjZ8

Many, many thanks, and seasons greetings to all.

Mark Singleton
