Introduction
By Jim Heyworth

Hello!

My name is Jim Heyworth and I live in Sechelt, Canada, located on British Columbia's Sunshine Coast near Vancouver.

I collect most types of automatic instruments: clockwork, pneumatic, electric and electronic, along with their related software. I also have a few simple automata. My collection includes a number of cylinder boxes from sectional-comb to orchestral, some disc boxes, a 5'4" Haines Bros. Ampico A and a (true) 5'7" Steinway Duo-Art grand with 10-roll Concertola changer. ("True 5'7" means that since there is no spoolbox over the keys they are of standard length, and the piano measures 5'7".)

My primary interests are musical boxes and reproducing pianos and I enjoy dealing with their idiosyncracies and maintenance. That is, when I'm not totally frustrated with their calls for help at inconvenient times.

I enjoy nickelodeons, band organs etc. a great deal but prefer to experience them in other people's collections.

Electronic stuff (much of it "antique" by today's standards) includes a Pianocorder, Roland RD-300 piano, ATARI- and PC-based MIDI capability, and various sound modules. One of my must-get-around-to-it-someday projects is connecting the Concertola umbilical cord to a MIDI interface but right now restoring a Symphonin and a number of other projects seem to have higher priorities.

If you have the July/August MBSI News Bulletin, you can see my sort-of-smiling face and some of my collection on pages 8 - 9.

Interested websurfers can check out my geographical location at http://www.sunshine.net/Sunshine/Location.

I look forward to exchanging ideas.

Cheers ! Jim
