Re: Visioneer "PaperPort" Scanner
By John Grant

[ Editor's Note: In digest 95.12.21, Richard Brandle
[ describes an "optical contact scanner" with an 8.5" active
[ width. The manufacturer is not interested in making
[ a 14" wide version.

Hi Richard,

Glad you're reading this list, I'm sure we can all benefit from your expertise and experiences. Regarding the available width of optical scanning heads: Why should this be such a concern? Couldn't you simply mount two heads, overlapped slightly with respect to the width of the paper but offset with respect to length, then correct for the offset in the software? (I'll attempt some ASCII art, hope this works!)

[ Editor's Note: Of course, by the time it got here, it
[ was "broken". I've fiddled with it and it looks good
[ here. There's no telling whether I've made it worse for
[ others... I hope not.
[ Jody

For heads with a width of 8 1/2" this would give you a capability of scanning up to 17" wide rolls (AEolian Duo-Art Organ rolls?) Any thoughts? -John Grant
