RE: Piano Roll/78 Record Sets

Maybe it's not so "quaint"...the Yamaha disklavier does this kind of stuff (live piano & recorded voice/orchestra) and touts it as something "new and exciting"!!!

I've also heard of these roll & record sets...my tuner/technician told me about some done by John McCormack & his pianist! I can imagine the synchronization was a nightmare...trying to get a spring-wound gramophone (in the days before stobes synchronization) and a foot-pumped player going at the same speed must have been frustrating at best!

I always keep my eyes open for these roll & record sets in the flea markets....maybe someday....

BTW, how does the phonograph work on your piano? Does the turntable fold out level (to a horizontal position)? All the old advertising drawings I've seen of the Apollophone show the turntable playing in an almost vertical position...it doesn't look like it would work that way!
