Article on DMM (translation by Robbie Rhodes)
By Hauke Marxsen, forwarded by Robbie Rhodes

 | Hallo Alles!
Today I received this nice e-mail from Hauke Marxsen. I am proud that I can read it without consulting my dictionary! (Only a few words!) Do you like my translation into English?

Jody, could you please answer Hauke's question about "sponsors and financing"? I think that all the Digest subscribers would be interested.

Hauke, the scanned-image file might be very big. Do you have a computer program for Optical Character Recognition? Then it would be just a small text file. ... I believe that Rob DeLand is interested in Welte-Mignon literature, but for right now I am interested in the technical articles which Horst wrote for DMM.

Tell us more about your interests, Hauke. Do you like music boxes and player pianos and big Fair-Organs? I sent to Horst a special Midi file of player piano music I created. You should visit him and hear it!

Horst, can you and Hauke help each other, to send the text files (or photocopies) to me?

 Best regards from California,

 -- Robbie

 Hallo Robbie,

 Yours Hauke

 Hello Robbie,

I received your e-mail. German is my mother-tongue; my English knowledge reaches [enough] to order breakfast in a hotel, or to ask the way!

I live in Kriftel near Frankfurt in Germany. I am a member of GSM for the last 4 or 5 years. I joined this Internet-group [Automatic Music Digest] at the first of the year.

Incidentally, Rob DeLand was looking for a translator (German to English) for some GSM articles; was this something for you?

I found these articles by Horst Mohr:

GSM journal Nr. 58 (July 1993); page 42 and 43.
GSM journal Nr. 60 (May 1994); pages 28 through 30.

In the firm where I work is a scanner. I will try to read the pages for you and send them as an e-mail appendix (e-mail plus a scanned file). Should this not work, I will make photocopies of the articles and send to you by mail.

I saw in the [Digest] index that you are very active in the automatic-music group. I am interested in where the server (169.91.163.1) actually is (California) and who sponsors the activity?

 Yours, Hauke

[ Editor's Note: My employer provides me with a permanent, 24-hour/day
[ Internet conneciton at 56kb to my home. 129.91.163.1 is one of several
[ addresses under my control at my home. I do the editing on my own time
[ and on my own computer. My employer is kind enough to "look the other
[ way". In fact, getting the e-mail and FTP stuff to work right for this
[ group has had a direct benefit to my employer since I provide software
[ maintenance advice for these kinds of issues to others in my company.
[ As for my time to do all this work -- its strictly "hobby".
 [
 [ Jody
