Re: Band Organs on CD
By Rob DeLand

Welcome to the MMD, Bill. Unless I'm mistaken, I don't think we've actually discussed band organ CD's yet, so you've brought up a good new subject! Reproducing pianos, yes, but not band organs.

I have 2 such CD's which I can recommend highly, of a large Belgian organ made by the Steenput Freres company. My CD's are of a large, recently-restored organ owned by Jim & Sherrie Krughoff, called De Grote Steenput. Volume 1 is light classical overtures with a total time of 73:58, and Volume 2 is popular selections with a total time of 71:41. I bought the CD's while visiting the organ in the Chicago area during last summer's MBSI convention. I know the Krughoff's well and would be happy to see about getting copies for you.

I don't have any others. I'll bet there are some CD's of good Wurlitzer and Dutch machines somewhere, and I wouldn't mind acquiring some of these myself. I have a lot of LP's including Paul Eakins stuff and others from the Klavier label, the latter of which have probably been transferred to CD's. I would prefer new, digital recordings myself. There are also a few cassette recordings sold by organ owners like Ron Bopp, but I guess we want to focus this thread on CD's.

Nancy Fratti is on this list and carries quite a few great CD's of automatic music instruments. I'm too lazy just now to look for her catalog; Nancy, do you have any band organ CD's?? ;-)

Cheers,
Rob DeLand
