Bellows Leather
By Matthew Caulfield

If you can get it, the best leather to use for band organ bellows is kangaroo. It's strong, durable, and airtight. Otherwise, I thought most people use cowhide?

I wasn't going to respond to the demographics question until I realized what a group of youngsters we have here on MMD. Even relief editor Robbie has a few good years left on his tread. I was interested in band organs way back when very few people other than Dave Bowers and Ross Davis were. Met some of the old timers in the business, but was too young and ignorant to know the right questions to ask.
