Rolls to MIDI
By Tom Steuer

Neil Rosenberg asks about who will transfer rolls to MIDI.

I believe Wayne Stahnke will do this for you. Check him out.

I am waiting for my Ampico-Duo-Art-Welte Vorsetzer to be completed and
when it is, I will resume transferring rolls from these manufacturers
plus 88-note rolls to Disklavier format. I suggest that anyone
interested in having rolls transferred in this manner contact me in
several months... say October or so. I had great success transferring
Duo-Art and 88 note rolls on my last Vorsetzer, but that is now sold and
gone and must wait until the "new" one comes back to me from the shop.

Regards, Tom

 [ Editor's Note:
 [
[ Wayne's out of the country right now, so he probably won't answer
[ right away. Wayne has, without question, the most accurate scanner
[ right now, and he will do scanning for hire. He also has software
[ which allows him to "reconstruct the master roll" in most cases.
[ He also has software for interpreting the expression data on
[ the reproducing roll and converting it to MIDI velocities.
 [
[ Thats the good news. The bad news is that Wayne has priced this
[ service out of the reach of the casual hobbyist who has 200 rolls
[ he wants scanned for personal listening. However, anyone wanting
[ to make a first class reproduction of an existing roll __MUST__
[ consider his service. I don't believe you can get a more
 [ accurate scan. Period.
 [
[ Tom, (and Andy) I fear you are going to be deluged with hobby scans...
 [
 [ Jody
