Roll Lending Libraries
By Houston Maples

Richard Vance mentions the roll-lending libraries which were privately
sponsored and were probably wide-spread during the heyday of the player
piano.

However, at least one Public Library also maintained a roll collection
for free public use in the period before World War I. This was the
Public Library of the District of Columbia. It may not have lasted
long, but its not unlikely that other metropolitan library systems did
the same.
