Cleaning the Music Box Movement
By Terry Smythe

Nancy Fratti says:

> Treat the spring with great respect -- it is about 27 feet of spring

I have a Kalliope Model 200 (64.5 cm discs) with saucer bells,
unrestored, but cleaned up a little, lubricated where logical, and it
works reasonably well. It is among my restoration projects not yet
started, principally because of my fear of this mammoth spring in it.

I don't recall ever seeing a discussion or article about how to safely
remove and replace springs. Is such a description available somewhere
within our literature? Is this something I can do myself (safely)? Or,
is there someone out there to whom I can send the spring motor, who will
remove the spring, lubricate and service it, and replace it for a fee?

Regards,

Terry Smythe
