Dear Julian Burk (and MMDers)

Congratulations on your PDS-128 installation! I myself am a certified
installer of the systems and think very highly of them. The latest
version (known as the "Silent Drive system with the PDS-128+ controller)
is absolutely fantastic. It has been my observation that there has been
comparatively few discussions about this system in this group compared
to some of the other modern systems out there. (I acknowledge that one
other person contributed to this issue, however). For those who have not
heard the quality of expression of this latest system lately, I urge you
to take another look. Those who have heard the older systems (PDS-1000,
PDS-32, and earlier PDS-128 systems prior to the Silent Drive), I assure
you there is know comparison. Of course in order for ANY system to sound
good, the piano must also be in proper regulation, tuning, and voicing.

This latest version will not only play (obviously) the complete library
of PDS disks, but also all Yamaha disks and standard MIDI files. I am
also told that a fiber-optic record system is coming soon! I am
convinced that this is (and will continue to be) the leader in this
technology, though I'm sure the Yamaha marketing people will say
otherwise. The technical specs are what count, not the pretty packaging,
100 year old history, or catchy slogans!! (I'm sure that statement will
result in a lot of immediate comments!)

In regards to your question about software, I would suggest you contact
a company called "GIEBLER ENTERPRISES" and ask for a catalog. They
produce decoding software that will allow you to convert PDS files into
standard MIDI files and vice-versa, as well as the ability to edit,
etc. They also make decoding software for Yamaha, Korg, Kawai, Roland,
Alesis, Ensonique, and other formats. Cost is $34.95 each.

You can reach them at:

    Giebler Enterprises

    e-mail: giebler@aol.com

They also have a WEB site at:

Happy PDS-ing!
