| Dear Ms. Jones,
I have David Cope's WWW site bookmarked, to get to his 'Listening
Booth'. The address is
    http://arts.ucsc.edu/faculty/cope/songs
His EMI computer programme composes songs in the style of other
composers. There is a Joplin rag at the Listening Booth; it's pretty
good apart from a couple of dodgy modulations. If anyone manages to
convert the *.bin Macbinary files to *.mid I'd appreciate a copy of
the rag.
Regards

 [ Editor's note:
 [
[ I visited Dr. Cope's home page at
 [ http://arts.ucsc.edu/faculty/cope/home
 [
[ The bio says, " ... His books 'Computers and Musical Style' and
[ 'Experiments in Musical Intelligence' describe the computer program
[ EMI (Experiments in Musical Intelligence) which he created in 1982.
[ The program functions by inheriting a composer's style and then
[ composing new music in that style."
 [
 [ I also retrieved the Joplin file, EMI-joplin-rag.bin (23k-bytes).
[ Netscape decompressed it okay, but the file seems to have a
[ strange header appended which is not in conformance with the MIDI
[ file spec. I'll try to repair it this weekend.
