Embarrassing Piano Stories - A Stormy Night
By Philip Jamison

Speaking of moving problems, I confess to losing a Steinway upright a
while back. We were ramping it from the seller's house to my truck on
a rainy, stormy night. It teetered and fell off the ramp and face-down
into the shrubbery, taking the porch post with it. The porch must have
been well-built since it didn't collapse.

The piano survived with a couple gouges, and we replaced the post. The
man was very understanding. I'm glad I wasn't under that Steinway when
it fell.
