Putting Copyrighted Music On the 'Net
By Bob Loesch

Hello, Listmembers! My name is Bob Loesch, and I own a player piano.
((murmured: 'hi, Bob'))

 [ How 'bout a big, resounding "*Hi, Bob*!!" ;) -- Robbie ]

I'm a new subscriber, and this is my first post to this list. I have
a Knabe 88-n player piano, a Marshall & Wendell upright Ampico (un-
restored), and an Aeolian Orchestrelle player reed organ, among other
musical toys.

What I'm writing about is Damon Atchison's post about "Putting
Copyrighted Music On the 'Net'". Damon wrote:

This information was the subject of a long thread a month or so ago on
PIPEORG-L. A legal eagle gave the opinion that if a work was recorded
or copied from a piece of sheet music or roll whose individual copy-
right had expired, then it was okay to copy, even if the work had been
re-issued under a new/renewed copyright. This is a legal gray area.

I repeat Damon's disclaimer: This is brief and non-specific, but I
believe it gets the point across.

Would anyone care to elaborate with more specifics?

Regards,

Bob Loesch
