Automatic Music in the Movies
By Bob Conant

Folks, A recent post reminded me of a couple occurrences of automatic
music in movies that I wanted to pass along. My wife is an avid movie
buff and lets me know when she runs across these.

A major occurrence is in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit". I had forgotten
this one but in the final scene there is a fairly long sequence that
features a large fair organ. It is a big gussied up with other stuff
around it but a real organ is there. I haven't determined what it is
as the name on it is Acme, a name from the movie and not a real organ
name. It plays "The Merry Go Round Broke Down" and it is the organ
that plays.

"The Razor's Edge" is a 1984 remake of a 1946 movie set in Europe
during WW 1. It stars Bill Murray in a dramatic roll and is fairly
good. It features a book operated street organ, a small one of the
monkey organ size.

"My Brother Talks to Horses" is a bit of fluff from 1946 starring
Charlie Ruggles, Spring Byington, and a young Peter Lawford. In one
scene there is an Edison (?) cylinder phonograph with a large horn.

I am copying Ron Bopp as Ron has been collecting these for an article
at some time. It sounds like a never ending task.
