Wurlitzer 165 Conversion
By Tom Grace

I was just reading the last Digest and Matthew Caulfield spoke of a
Wurlitzer 165 Band organ that once was converted at the factory to play
Caliola rolls. I would be very interested in any information anyone
might have regarding how this was done, hopefully a tubing chart?

I have recently acquired a large quantity of Caliola rolls that were
believed to have been played on a Wurlitzer 157 band organ. I have seen
tubing charts in Treasures of Mechanical Music that refer to tubing a
180 band organ for Caliola rolls but that's it. Since Caliola rolls are
fully chromatic how would you divide this and or tube this to the
different divisions of a 157 or 165, since these organs are not fully
chromatic? One last note for our Wurlitzer Historian, Matthew, why
would Wurlitzer do such a conversion in the first place when rolls
were being made for both 165 scale and Caliola?

Thanks for all your input!

Thomas Grace
