Overheating Turbine Motor
By Bill Masterman

Hello MMDers, In response to Larry Mayo's 981103 posting, I too have
encountered the problem of the hot running turbine pump. On one of my
orchestrions, It takes more than 3 minutes to rewind a 15 tune 0-roll.
Between the long rewind time and the limited passage of air during play
mode, my pump would eventually start to stink of overheating.

A simple cure that I installed over a year ago; Add a vacuum spill
valve to the supply trunk somewhere between the pump and the stack
cutout. It should be of the adjustable type so you can set the desired
amount of spill. This has kept my pump running much cooler during
rewind and play mode. I have since installed these on three other
units, and they work great.

One last thought: be sure to install a muffler on the spill valve
so as not to hear that annoying hissing sound!
