Mounting Rail for Disklavier Solenoids
By Larry Broadmoore

Install Disklavier Mechanism in Non-Yamaha Pianos!

It is no longer necessary to be stuck with a Yamaha brand piano if
you wish to own a Disklavier. We can transplant the solenoids from
a Disklavier stack into a new, heavily built, high-quality stack rail
designed by me, which is covered by my patents owned by Broadmoore
Research Corporation.

Recently I was asked to build a new solenoid stack for a Steinway
Model D grand piano, so that the owner could have a Disklavier in it.
He purchased a Disklavier and the Steinway for the purpose. I did so,
and as it worked out extremely well, I have decided to offer this
service to the general public.

Like the Yamaha stack, my stack rail is of 14 gage steel; however,
unlike the Yamaha product, ours is only a single, massive piece.
It may therefore be even stronger than the original unit. Yamaha is
forbidden to build its rails in this manner without our permission;
we have exclusive rights to this design.

Our rail is perforated with .827" holes, into which are pressed
shouldered cylinders which receive the original plastic-bobbin coils.
These are retained by steel clips in the bore, therefore it is a simple
matter to remove them for replacement, if necessary. The steel rail
and steel cylinders act as a heat sink, to dissipate some of the heat
generated by the coils.

The electronics are mounted in a similar fashion to the way they are
mounted in the original stack.

We require an original stack from which parts can be removed, or a set
of components; an accurate scale stick, showing which side is bass and
which treble; the measurement from the keybed to the underside of the
keys; the thickness of the keybed and certain other information; from
these data my draftsman produces drawings from which the rail and
covers may be fabricated.

Very little, if any, height adjustment will be required, and this
is easily done.

The price for the new rail and transplantation of components is $5,000
plus shipping.
