Tilden Park Organ is 90-key Ruth
By Rick McDowell

Marc is correct in identifying the Tilden Park organ. I was visiting
with Ed Schmidt of McFarland, Kansas over the weekend and I asked him
if he knew of this organ. Ed lived in California for many years and
has worked on many organs and worked for and knew many organ restorers.

As many of you know, Ed built my New-Matic 168 Band organ that plays
both Wurlitzer 165 and 150 music rolls, and the organ is larger than
a 165 would have been. Ed thought that Wurlitzer's next band organ
would have been a 168 model.

Anyway, Ed is very familiar with the Tilden Park organ and its owner.
The organ started out as a 90-key Ruth organ and was converted to
B.A.B. by the B.A.B. company in either 1956 or 1957. Ed told me that
Harold Perry purchased the organ when it was a 90-key Ruth and had the
organ converted to B.A.B.

If anyone would like to talk to Ed about the organ, you can e-mail me
at <rickm7331@aol.com> and I can give you Ed's phone number.

[ Thanks for passing along the info, Rick. I've seen photos of the
[ fairground organ built by Ed Schmidt and which you now own. Please
[ tell us sometime about your unique instrument and your adventures
[ showing it at rallies! ;) -- Robbie
