Hybrid Player Piano Record Player?
By Mike Carey

Attached is a scanned picture (now that I have a computer that will
scan!) of the player piano I have in my collection that has a
phonograph installed from the factory.

The player is a run-of-the-mill double-valve Standard. The only real
changes in the player for the phonograph are:

1. The tracker assembly is mounted on top of the spoolbox instead of
   beside it

2. The roll compartment in the top of the spoolbox is the horn for
   the phonograph.

The crank enters the cabinet on the right side, passes behind the wind
motor and spoolbox, and screws into the motor. It is a LONG crank! (I
did not get the crank with the piano, however.)

The rest of the player and piano are conventional.

The brand name on the phonograph is "PHONOLA".

The phonograph is mounted at a slight angle, in order to keep the record
on the turntable. The tone-arm is equipped with a counterweight to keep
the needle tracking in the groove; it only plays 78 rpm records (which
is no problem; I have hundreds!)

This piano is shown in the Encyclopedia, but I'm not sure which page;
the book is downstairs in my office.

I would like to know if anyone else has or has seen one of the
combinations.
