J. W. Walker Organ Builder
By Glenn Amer

The Organ building firm of J W Walker is indeed still in existence. My
last correspondence with J W Walker was only a year or two ago, when
the church where I am director of music was restoring its magnificent
1867 two manual pipe organ. Thankfully the organ had not been tampered
with at all in its history, which made the restoration relatively
pain-free! But, when the organ was sent from England to Australia, it
was sent with 4 stops prepared for, but with no pipes installed (lack
of funds). As the church wanted to restore the organ to fully original
condition, I wrote to Walker's and requested any information they could
give on what the missing stops were meant to be. They traced the organ
back through their records (we knew it was job number 838), and they
very kindly sent me a photocopy of the original entry in their log
book! We had the missing pipework made locally, but ideally I would
have preferred the Walker company to supply the pipework (it just
would have worked out far too expensively). I am sure they are only
too happy to help with inquiries. I would give their address,
unfortunately I have just moved and can't find their correspondence
(boxes, boxes, boxes).

Kind regards

Glenn Amer.
