Aeolian Orchestrelle Tracker Bar Repair
By Dennis Mead

Hello D. L. -- I read your posting this morning on the MMD about the
brat that ruined the Orchestrelle tracker bar, and had a thought about
how to go about having it repaired.

This suggestion is without knowing specifically what the exact
dimensions of the holes are, the holes per inch, or the thickness
of the webs between the holes:

Take the whole tracker bar to a good machine shop and have them use
a slitting saw to cut slots (the exact thickness of the webs) across
the bar and only as deep as needs to be to make a clean cut into
whatever is left of the existing webs. Glue in strips of wood the
thickness of the cuts, and later, dress and sand the strips flush to
the tracker bar. A wax finish should complete the job. If you use the
same type of wood for the strips as the bar is made of, you will end up
with a fancy looking striped tracker bar!

Slitting saws are available in just about any thickness you can
imagine, so the width of the webs can be whatever is required. Also,
since all machine shops today have computer controlled machines these
days, they can very quickly duplicate the oddest hole per inch spacing
perfectly and without any cumulative error.

Good Luck, Dennis Mead
