Books About Old Pianos
By Ray Bauer

Readers may find this book a helpful addenda to what subscribers
have recently written here. It is a comprehensive history of piano
development, from monochord to concert grand.

"Pianos and Their Makers", by Alfred Dolge, Covina Publishing Co.,
1911 (Original publication). I have a copy...

The same book was issued as a paperback by Dover Publications, Inc.,
180 Varick St., New York, NY 10014, Library of Congress Catalog Card
Number: 72-188952

George Steck (a piano bears his name) was another early pioneer of
piano development and is credited with the overstrung bass string idea.
Steck also wrote a book about same.

Ref. Chickering and his square grand: Jonas Chickering began in 1823
in New York, N.Y., according to my Chickering literature.
