Curtain Regulators
By Randy

Larry Mayo asked, "Does anybody make curtain regulators for sale?"

Yes, though I haven't thought the quality of modern ones is as good
as the old ones. The new ones all seem to be plywood with screw blocks
in the corners, and not as well built as the old solid wood and framed
deals. In fact, when I removed the Kilgen organ there was a _huge_
regulator which was newer, probably from the 1980s. The curtain
mechanisms were nice but the box was very chintzy plywood top and
bottom and poor pine for the sides, with screw blocks and glue holding
the corners.

I broke it up for what I thought would be a few pieces of useable wood
but the wood was so poor and the whole thing so poorly made it split
and broke boards trying to do anything along those lines. I wound up
taking it to the dumpster and just keeping the two curtain mechanisms.

You can find regulators at OSI, or you might find a used one. New
ones at OSI will run you around $500 and up plus crating and shipping.
I could probably make one for you but it would cost about the same and
I really don't have the time; I have two of my own to releather right
about now.
