List of Intona Organette Discs
By Mike Knudsen

Here is a list of my 23 Intona Organette 16-note annular discs, with my
own subjective evaluations of their music. This should benefit Kevin
McElhone and anyone else with this fun little instrument. It should be
archived under Organette and Intona.

List of 23 Intona 16-Note Organette Annular (Ring) Discs

Sorted by maker's tune number.
German and Austrian tunes naturally dominate.
Also represented are Poland, Hungary, France, British Isles,
and perhaps the USA.

Titles are listed exactly as stamped on the discs, with my translations
in [square brackets] and comments on the following line. However,
umlaut vowels are notated "oe" and "ae".

All titles end in a period, and all have beginning of disc stamped
"Commencement", and also "Anfang" except where noted. "Anfang" is
omitted on a few discs (not intended for the German market?) and
replaced by "Kezdet" on the Hungarian disc. English ones do not say
"Beginning" -- maybe it wouldn't fit.

2506: Ambos Polka. Fast, high, delightful! Very good.

2518: Blumen-Polka. [Flower Polka] Pretty, melody covers
wide register range. Very good.

2549: Schrammel-Walzer. Very good waltz; tune is almost the
C-strain of march "Wien Bleibt Wien"!

2568: Fairyland Walz. So-so melodic waltz. "Anfang" omitted,
just "Commencement", but no "Beginning".

2573: Mariska-csardas, alk. Sternberg. Bright and fast. Beginning
of disc stamped "Kezdet" as well as "Anfang".

2578: Intona-Polka. Melodic and rippling, pretty good. Written
especially for the organette maker?

2579: Gigerl-Marsch. Bugle-call intro, delightful march, sounds
Swiss or Tyrolean.

2580: Ta-ra-ra-Bumm-dera-Marsch. A great polka! No relation to #2585,
despite same title with different spelling.

2585: Ta-ra-ra boom-dere'. The well-known "Howdy Doody" theme. Very
good, with both verse and chorus repeated.

2618: Sir Roger de Coverley Country Dances. Jig in 9/8 and 12/8,
should be cranked very fast!

2648: IV Thl. Wjusenka Quadrille. 4/4 dance with abrupt, stomping
halts. Might the Roman numbers in this, #3236, and #2815 refer to
time signature? A fast waltz could be in 1, not 3.

2804: Oh honey, my honey. So-so polka, with verse and chorus.

2815: Fig. IV. Orpheus-Quadrille. So-so fast 4/4/tune.
Part 4 (Figure 4)? of a set?

2827: Hej, Slovane! Very good; first two-thirds of tune is like the
Polish national anthem.

2880: Colonel-Polka. Good polka with yodeling effects.

2914: The Highland. Schottische. Mediocre transcription of this
Scottish dance, two strains.

3048: Kuss-Walzer. (Kiss Waltzes?) Very good, with 3 strains.

3235: I Thl. Wiener Praterleben. Walzer. [Viennese Prater Life
Waltzes] Good basic happy waltz. Does "I Thl." mean "1st section"?
Like #2815, was this disc part of a multiple set?

3345 or 3835: Wozu hast du dern das? Rheinlaender. [Why have you X
that?] Melodic dance in 4/4.

3385: Bahn frei. Polka (schnell). [Clear the Tracks!] Excellent fun,
with train whistle effects. Maybe by Strauss?

3399: Wildfeuer. Polka (francaise). (Wildfire Polka (French))
Good, with melodic runs and unusual harmonies; does indeed sound
French despite German title.

3525: Frangesa! Marche. Good march, with good sustained 2nd strain.
No "Anfang". Definitely not "Francesa", the small "g" is visible.

3650: Donauweiben. Walzer. [Danube Women Waltzes] Excellent and
lively.
