Self-Punched Organ Rolls
By John Smith

In reply to Howard Wyman, perhaps you could consider making one of my
punches. These are suitable for paper widths up to about 6 inches use
a very simple electrical solenoid system to take the hard work out of
it. Plans for this are available at a modest price contact

I have been following the discussion of saloon music, and am very
pleased that it has received so much interest. I am sure it was this
type of music that first grabbed my imagination as a small boy, we
usually went to the local "flea pit cinema" on Saturday afternoons,
entry 2 old pence. As a special treat we would sometimes go to the
proper cinema entry 6 pence and this was where my imagination really
took off as the Wurlitzer did its stuff. Once or twice a year the fair
came to town and then yet another set of brain cells were set in action.

Well its nice to know that nearly 60 years on I am now just starting to
build my own fair organ, I sit at my Yamaha organ and imagine I'm back
at the Ritz cinema, maybe I should switch on the honky tonk and
practice some saloon style playing. Ah! The joy of getting old.
