Zephyr Skin Pouches
By Paul Saint-Dennis

-- non-subscriber, please reply to sender and MMD --

Hello to all. About two years ago I restored a Sinclair & Sons
double-valve player action. Everything little thing was replaced
except the zephyr skin leather of the primary valve pouch.

Shame on me, but to be honest, at that precise moment I didn't have
that material. The zephyr skin was very tight and okay then, the
player was very responsive in pianissimos, staccatos and so on.

Well, I have the piano here in my atelier to do now the case, and my
conscience told me to finish what I let go unfinished. I made the
primary pouches, but I used not zephyr skin but very thin regular
brown-orange pouch leather.

What a mistake! I have lots of valves that are 'lazy'; the action
stopped being as responsive as it formerly was.

All my experience with zephyr leather relates to 'pillow' pouches of
the Hupfeld action type; I never had problems with those. This is the
first time that this happens to me. Any comments are welcome.

Yours
Paul Saint-Dennis
