Videotape "Organ Grinding In The UK"
By Bob Essex

In Vincent Morgan's comments about organ grinders in New York City he
mentioned both John Smith and Castlewood organs. This prompts me to
reply with some more detail.

I have recently received a videotape entitled "Organ Grinding In The
UK" which lasts for 48 minutes and is published by Burl F. Updyke of
Philadelphia.

Burl and his wife Shirley toured the UK last summer. They visited
the Hunstanton organ grind organised by the British Organ Grinders
Association (BOGA) and recorded their visit on videotape. The many
organs and their owners which Burl captured on video camera include
John Smith, playing his latest "Universal" organ and also Tom Newsome,
who came over from Australia for the event, playing his Castlewood
organ.

This videotape, full of sights and sounds and characters, is a "must"
for all who are interested in the street-organ grinding scene. Burl
and Shirl also visited my home to view the MIDster Punch and recorded
me playing one of my own organs. Burl Updyke can be contacted on
<burl@epix.net>.

A correction to the email address given for John Smith's plans: The
distribution of plans has been taken over by Peter Hood, together with
the supply of organ parts and music for John Smith organs. He can be
contacted on <rollcutter@btopenworld.com>. Chris Doe no longer handles
the sales of plans, etc.

Best wishes to all for an organ-ised new year!

Bob Essex
Warwickshire, England.
