Treating New Metal Screws to Appear Old
By Larry Wilson

Thanks to all who gave me plenty of ideas on making new screws appear
to be old. One person, not on MMD, suggested that I wrap a couple of
the new screws in a paper towel soaked in vinegar, and another couple
of screws in a paper towel soaked in ammonia, and then place each
bundle in a jar with sealed lid and leave over night.

I did this and the bright shinny screws were a dull darker finish the
next morning. The vinegar worked better than the ammonia. Now that
I have dull silver screws I think I will try the bluing process and
see what happens.
