Building a Small Glue Pot
By Rob Goodale

I have come up with a marvelous and very inexpensive alternative small
glue pot. The components consist of a Rival "Potpourri" crock pot,
a small round Tupperware container, and a stainless steel camping cup.
All of these items came from Wal-Mart.

The Potpourri pot is a miniature crock pot designed for putting dried
flowers in, model 3204, (35 watts). The temperature is remarkably
perfect for hot glue. If you wish to reduce the temperature you can
easily add a standard light dimmer in the line but I have not found it
necessary.

Inside the pot you will use a stainless steel camping cup. These are
available in the Wal-Mart sporting goods section. They have a wire
handle which you will remove. Because it is stainless steel, the glue
will not stick, it will never rust, and the size is perfect. Just as
with a standard glue pot you will pour water around the stainless steel
cup.

The final piece is the lid which I made from a basic clear plastic
Tupperware food container. The one I used has a lip that perfectly
sets into the recessed rim of the pot. This not only makes a nice seal
but it also has about 1-1/2 inches of clearance to extend over the top
of the stainless steel cup. If desired you can make a small hole for
your brush.

When I made mine Wal-Mart was having a sale on the "Potpourri" pots
for $5.00. I think it cost me about $10.00 to make the whole thing.
As a finishing touch I stripped off the decorative floral motif with
some acetone leaving only a smooth metallic exterior finish. It looks
professional, it works great, and it didn't cost $120.00.
