Power Supply for Welte-Mignon 110V DC Motor
 By Benjamin Haass

 | Robbie made a comment that 120V AC when rectified should produce about
108V DC. I disagree. It will produce about 170V DC. The 120V is the
RMS (root 2/2) value of the AC waveform. When rectified and filtered,
you will get the peak value. This could damage the motor so I wouldn't
try it.

[ My statement stands if a bridge rectifier of four diodes is used
[ alone, with no other components. A ripple filter following the
[ rectifier is not needed since the inductance of the motor windings
[ significantly reduces the 120 Hz ripple current. Compact silicon
[ bridge rectifier modules, rated for 25 amperes, used to be sold
[ by Motorola and other semiconductor vendors for less than $10.
