Types of Self-Playing Pipe Organs
By John Page, UK

Hal Davis reported:

> For those of you who would like to hear a pipe organ being played by
> Wurlitzer series 165 band organ rolls you can download these files.

Please enlighten me. I'm only an ignorant Englishman, but if a
Wurlitzer 165 isn't a pipe organ, just exactly what is it?

Regards,
John Page, UK

[ While we're at it, let's discuss the types of organs (the musical
[ instrument, if you please ;-). Sounds are produced by reeds without
[ resonators (harmonium), reeds _with_ resonators (reed pipes) and
[ resonators without reeds (flue pipes); the instrument might have
[ all three types. The organ can be big or small, enclosed in an
[ ornate or very plain case, and seen indoors or outdoors. What is
[ the special feature or quality of what we commonly call a church
[ organ, a theatre organ, a fair organ, a band organ, a street organ,
 [ a residence organ, a table-top organ, a bird organ? -- Robbie
