Types of Self-Playing Organs
By Christofer Noering

Hello all! Robbie Rhodes commented in 040124 MMDigest:

>[ a street organ, a residence organ, a table-top organ, a bird organ?

Now Robbie, you know that this is a very difficult task!

Church organ vs. theatre organ? Spontaneously I'd say that the
theatre organ, contrary to the church organ, is equipped with what
is commonly referred to as "drums and traps". But there actually
are some church organs equipped with Zimbelstern, bird-song and/or
thunder effect. (Although some have a rear view mirror, I've never
heard of a church organ with an automobile horn!)

Fair organ vs. band organ? I feel that the former is of European,
the latter of American origin.

Street organ? Any organ with wheels on it (but _not_ a fair organ
or band organ sitting on a trailer).

Best regards from Stockholm (where we have both tramways/streetcars
running partially in tunnels, and an underground/subway running
partially on street level).
