Automated Music Transcription to Musical Score
By Jan Kijlstra

It has been a dream for a long time: play a musical piece, let it
be recognised by a computer, and generate a score. For those
interested in the subject, use Google, enter "Ali Taylan Cemgil",
and be surprised!

Doctor Cemgil, after 14 years of studying and investigation, finally
graduated on the subject. In "Automatiseringgids", a major Dutch
IT-magazine, the work of Dr. Cemgil was brought to attention. It's
quite high-tech and theoretical but, in fact, very interesting for
those involved with mechanical music.

And aren't we all?!

Jan Kijlstra

[ "Generative Model Based Polyphonic Music Transcription" --
[ "A model for simultaneous tempo and polyphonic pitch tracking [with]
[ emphasis on modeling the sound generation procedure. ... Most of the
[ authors [of previous studies] view automated music transcription as
[ a 'audio to piano roll' conversion and usually view 'piano-roll to
 [ score' as a separate problem. ..."
