Ampico Symphonique Roll Tracking Problem
By Chris Bannon

-- non-subscriber, please reply to sender and MMD --

Hi, I recently acquired an Ampico Symphonique baby grand. The
reproducing mechanism was overhauled about 5 or 6 years ago, though
the instrument hadn't been used much until I got it.

Though it worked well after it arrived (about a month ago), I now have
a problem with the tracking mechanism. Rolls seem to drift off-track,
and towards the right (upper) end of the keyboard, causing the piano to
play in an unintentionally hilarious and ultimately unsatisfying way.

I've tried adjusting the small brass collar around the right pin (which
holds the take-up) reel, but even moving that all the way to the left
doesn't seem to help.

The two brass guides on the tracker bar don't seem to move at all.
Is there a pneumatic connection that's somehow been lost? If so, dare
I try tackling it?

Also, anyone know anything about the Symphonique? I haven't seen much
online.

Many thanks for whatever assistance you have time to offer.
