Chopin "Military" Polonaise for Ampico
By Larry Norman

Hi all, Chopin composed 11 polonaise's(another source says he
composed 16) and wrote Polonaise in A Major, Op 40, No. 1 (known as
the 'Militaire Polonaise'), a very lively peppy musical piece. It
is recorded on Ampico roll number 57296H, played by Artur Rubinstein.

Chopin did write a second Polonaise in C Minor, Op 40 No. 2, which is
a more gloomy one which is not played that often. It was not recorded
on Ampico. To my knowledge there is not a No. 3 in this series.

So, I think Op. 40 No. 1 is the one you seek. It is a fairly common
roll on Ampico and I don't think you will have a problem finding
a copy. Keystone Magic Melodies probably has one

It is possible that I may have a copy on one of my upcoming music roll
auctions. I have just received a consignment of 100 Ampico rolls that
will be on my next music roll auction, most likely in January or
February, 2005.  I have not looked at the entire collection as yet;
check my web site the later part of January and see if there is
a copy, at http://home.earthlink.net/~rollertunes

Musically,
Larry Norman, from the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.
No snow yet.
