Here's probably a multiple dilemma. I have a Standard Player that was
a foot pumper. I have attempted to electrify it with a turbine type
vacuum pump by tapping into the large pipe coming out of the left side
of the main pump box.
Everything works fine when playing. When I rewind, first I can't get
enough pressure to rewind and have to assist using the foot pedals,
which will re-wind then, but the roll doesn't disengage: it plays the
roll backwards as you pump. If I turn off the vacuum motor and rewind
with only the foot pump, it does the same thing. I may have upset the
apple cart somewhere here.
One other item: If I try to pump the piano with the foot pump only,
I get music but it's like running a relay race. I don't see any
leaks, or feel any, but I'm sure there is one there. Did I tap into
the wrong place?
My second idea was to install a nipple right on the main bellows box
and feed vacuum just as the foot pedal would do. I thought that by
simply putting a tee on the 1-1/4" pipe leading from the pump box,
it would do the same thing. Any ideas?
