Preventing Piano Roll Tearing
By Frank Adams

The best and simplest way to curtail the tearing of piano rolls is to
pull off the left flange and wrap one round of Scotch tape on the part
that goes into the core of the roll. It should fit tight, now pull the
left flange out about one eighth of an inch. This gives room for the
roll to wander some. If one wrapping of Scotch tape is not enough then
put on another half or full round.
