Cleaning Metal Organ Pipes With Versene
By John Schroeder

-- non-subscriber, please reply to sender and MMD --

I saw a note from John Nolte dating back to 2003 suggesting the use
of Versene for cleaning metal pipes. I have not been able to find
a suitable source of supply. Does anyone know of one?

My problem is the minimum order quantity. Most of the sources offer
five-gallon buckets, or 50-pound sacks, or 1200 pounds, none of which
which are practical for a small application.

I have found a source for disodium EDTA in small quantities, which
I will try. Tetrasodium EDTA is supposedly better for metal cleaning,
but I can't find it in small quantities.

[ EDTA apparently is short for ethylene-diamine-tetracetate.
[ Dow Chemical says, "VERSENE CA chelating agent is the calcium
[ chelate of EDTA, in dry form, and may be used in direct food
 [ applications." See
 [ http://www.dow.com/versene/index.htm
 [ http://www.dow.com/versene/purchase/index.htm
 [
[ A discussion forum about electroplating also mentions the product:

[ Let us know your experience after you try it, John. -- Robbie
