ATT Antispam Policy
By Vic Searle

To the MMD'er in France: You, sir, are not alone on your problems
with ATT. Many US servers, not ATT alone, are stationing an
organization called "Spam Cop" on their incoming lines, which will
block _every_ message coming from a provider they are unhappy with.
Any address with an "ATT" in it is automatically bounced back with a
notice that the return address (i.e., your server) is on the blacklist.

I have been corresponding with fellow MMD'ers and pipe organ
enthusiasts all over the world, and only the USA seems to be
self-righteously blocking anything that contravenes server's moral
or political policies. To them, anything which they consider "spam"
is obscene.

To date, I am in contact with people on 27 different servers who cannot
receive my messages. These include att.net, attglobal.net, verizon.net,
comcast.net (including a very popular pipe organ list) and many others.

All reply to my complaints that my server <plala.or.jp> is the major
supplier of porno from Asia, yet everyday my inbox is filled with ad
after ad for Viagra, pain pills, Rolex watch fakes, stock-market tips,
etc. ad nauseam. I have taken this up with them and they say there is
nothing they can do. I would change my server except it would mean
notifying over a hundred of my internet friends.

The only thing I can suggest is that you get a free Hotmail account
and contact your ATT friend through them. I know it is a pain in the
derriere to have to jump over to Hotmail every time you try to contact
a black-listed server. You could also try Yahoo, but there is a rumor
that they will soon start charging an annual fee for use of their site.

Hope you can solve your problem this way.
