| Hi all, and a Merry Christmas! This is a really basic question,
but you're the group to ask. I just found a box of 84 piano rolls
at a shop. Almost all are QRS rolls from the 1950s and '60s (in brown
boxes with red and white labels, although one played by Jo-Ann Castle
is in a gold box). Almost all rolls are "good old standards" and good
sing-along tunes like "Marie", "Mame", etc., and a few rags.
All the rolls show a little edge wear on the non-driven side; obviously
the piano these were played on had a minor tracking problem. The edge
wear seems to be on the first three feet or so.
The shop wants $300, which works out to about $3.60 a roll. Does this
seem to be a bargain? There's some overlap on my collection, so I guess
I'd sell the duplicates on eBay. I really wasn't planning on spending
$300 on piano rolls right now!
