Ampico A System Removed From Grand Piano
By Don Teach

Personally I would not remove a working or non-working Ampico player
system. Much has been written in the past about the performance of the
electronic player verses the original reproducers. I love the Yamaha
Disklavier but I will admit that, when it comes to just sitting back
and listening to a player piano, I still prefer the Ampico.

I have heard only two or three PianoDisc and several of the Pianomation
systems. They were horrible in comparison to the Ampico or Yamaha.
One of the systems did not even have the sustain pedal operated by the
system and it was a "factory" installed system.

The listenabililty of the Ampico or other fine reproducing piano is
far greater than you will experience with the add-on electronic kit.
I think "ear fatigue" would be my most accurate description of the
add-on electronic kit.

Save the parts as you will sooner or later wish you had them. Perhaps
you should just add the electronics to play the Ampico.
